Esa and I went to game store today and asked the clerk about controllers.

Controllers:

We asked if there were differences between controllers (of different consoles).

For me they all looked the same :)

He said that the main differences are in

*accuracy (in mushroom shaped button)

*the general feeling (in hand)

*weight and

*location of buttons.

also the shape of button matters. In playstation 3 controller the buttons located under the controller (to push with forefinger) are shaped too round and that has got many ppl very angry

-> grip is not as good

also the sides of the mushroon shaped button wear, accoding to the guy they should be made of aluminun (or something like that)

He said that ppl have a lot of individual preferences, that the best controller woyld be one that users themselves could customise from parts. Choose the parts that they want from a small pool of parts.

Also he said that the controller is so important part of gaming, that some people select the console they buy according to the controller. (for example xbox 360, because the controller is more accurate than other's)

He thought that it is really hard to design a new kind (shape wise) of controller, because the current ones are ergonomically so perfect and they have pretty much exactly the right number of buttons. There could be two more for little finger and ring finger, but that could also be just too much to use efficiently, -> would demand too much motorical skills

For real hard core gamers the details matter a lot. Some have silver chords, because that is the fastest material. The speed (of the information moving) is really important to some.

also there exists one controller that tracks eye movement, one can aim with eyes. it is aimed for strategy games. (did not remember the name)

Gamers:

For hard core gamers, it is not about how the game is controlled, it is only about winning the opponents. the method of controlling don't matter. only about winning
