INTERVIEW WITH ANDY THE AUSTRALIAN COACH

We had a very intensive interview today with Andy. I wrote down 6 pages of text. Where should I put them?

A quotation:
"Andys idea: go to a gun store or superior air soft gun store and feel like how does they give feedback, how everything sounds. Expensive soft guns are also hard core, you can see how have they made toys sound like real life guns. Andys says that we should try like real life shooting. HOW DOES IT FEEL & HEAR – What kind of feedback!! The best thing is the feedback. Feel, click and sound."

Experience Benchmarking

For this test we created a sequence of CoD tasks for the user to do and focused on the user's hands/fingers during the tasks. Our goal was to find which buttons on the Xbox controller are not intuitive during gameplay. We've tested and videotaped three of us and will continue testing other classmates and CoD players.

Key findings:
1) The crouch button is not intuitive when you need to from standing to full lying down and vise versa (2 levels of movement).
2) Sometimes grenade buttons are mistaken for shooting buttons
3) There should be an easier way for sprinting
4) In general the joystick buttons are not too easy to use (sprint and knife attack)

IDEA: ORGANIZING COD EVENTS AT AALTO & STANFORD

We got this idea yesterday that we should organize a CoD playing event at each University.

Goals:

  • Meet CoD players
  • See them in action
  • Create contacts for future observations & interviews
  • Get our minds more into the scene

Organizing:
  • Post a advert to University newsboard/newsmail/blog
  • Get 6-10 people max - There cannot be 2 many peoples that everybody can play and there is still some kind of order
  • There still has to be certain amount of people that they feel comfortable and that the atmosphere is enough social
  • Serve Pizza & Coke (can be mentioned in the advert)
  • Record the event somehow
Points to pay attention to:
  • Divide clear tasks between the team
  • Have a clear vision of agenda/goals/tasks
  • How to record the event: audio/video without too much material
  • How to make people comfortable while they are really intensively observed

MESSAGE BOARD USER SURVEY - COD ON PC VS. XBOX POPULARITY

"We've mostly been looking over user comments on message boards. I've attached a some relevant comments on an excel file (also on egnyte), so I recommend looking over those. The alarming thing is that most people chose Xbox for reasons unrelated to the controller! (price of gaming PCs, too many hackers on PC, lack of dedicated servers, etc.) We are meeting with our Activision liason Mark Griffith on Monday 11am (our time), and we intend to bring up these issues with him. We will be sure to videotape or at least record audio of the meeting."
